Visual Identity and Ex Libris as a present for a dear friend

In December, last year, was the Birthday of a very good friend of mine, a talented writer and journalist from Sibiu: Nani I. Dobra. A man of words and letters, with a very colorful, acid, “pointy”, style of writing. He has at home, a vast library, filled with thousands of old books ranging from literature and science, to history and sociology. My thought was that the perfect gift for him, would be a bold illustrated mark which he could use as his personal visual identity but also as an Ex Libris to brand all the volumes, he stores in his work office.
I had in mind an illustration of a Sagittarius (his zodiac sign) holding a bow & arrow, but instead of an arrow head, a pen tip as a visual metaphor for his style of writing and nevertheless for his artistic personality. The Ex Libris contains the illustration, a few ornaments, but also a newly created monogram, integrated into the composition.
This is what I came with. He was more than happy to receive such a present.
